Foundation repair
We find what's moving before we patch anything, whether that's settling in sandy ground or water standing against the slab, then repair the cracks and deal with the cause.
AJ West Palm Beach Concrete & Masonry is a masonry contractor working in Riviera Beach. We repair crumbling mortar, cracked brick and tired block walls, and we build new paver, block and stone work around your house.

We're a masonry contractor based in West Palm Beach, just south of here, and our crew works in Riviera Beach the same way it does in Lake Park and Palm Beach Gardens. What moves the price is how much wall or joint needs work, how deep the damage goes once the old mortar is out, and whether the brick, block or stone has to be matched. The schedule turns on the weather, cure time and any permit review. Your own figure comes from the estimate.
The weather records for nearby West Palm Beach show about 62 inches of rain a year, close to 9 of it in August, and so little cold that frost hardly matters. So what wears masonry down here is water and heat. Joints wash out, pavers sink when the base can't drain, and salt air near the water works on brick and block. A lot of houses here are concrete block, often on sandy ground, so we start by finding where the water goes.
The masons who build your job work for us, so the plan we settle on at the estimate is the plan they show up with, not a guess passed along.
When a job needs a permit, we check with the office that covers your address, pull it and set up the inspections, so you're not the one chasing paperwork.
I ran schedules for a builder before starting this in 2017. We're known for showing up on the day we planned, and I'll tell you up front if a job's bigger or smaller than you feared.
We find what's moving before we patch anything, whether that's settling in sandy ground or water standing against the slab, then repair the cracks and deal with the cause.
Chimneys here usually go first at the top, where rain soaks the cap and upper joints, so we replace worn mortar, reset loose brick and rebuild the cap.
We grind out crumbling mortar to sound depth and pack new joints in a matched color, so the wall sheds water again and blends with the old work.
We find the leak or movement behind cracked or flaking brick first, then cut out the damage and set matching brick, because new brick fails the same way otherwise.
Pavers sink when the base holds water, so we dig out, pack the base firm with a slope that drains, and lock the edges so the pattern stays put.
Wet sand pushes hard on a retaining wall, so we set it on a solid footing with drain rock behind it and openings near the bottom that let water out.
We clean older brick and stone gently and repair it with mortar soft enough for the old material, because hard modern mortar can crack the very brick it holds.
We build masonry fireplaces indoors or out on the patio, laying the firebox and surround to the maker's clearances and setting them on a base that can carry the weight.
We put stone veneer, a thin stone facing, over block walls with a mesh base and a way for water to drain, because trapped moisture pops it loose.
Privacy walls get a poured footing, steel and concrete in the block's hollow cores where they need strength, and stucco or paint that keeps rain out.
We lay foundation block on a level, checked footing for additions and new structures, keeping each row straight and plumb so the framing and roof above sit true.
Grill islands and counters go up in block, faced in stone or stucco, with openings sized to the appliances you've picked so the grill and fridge drop right in.
Paver, brick or concrete walkways get a firm base and a slight slope away from the house, so summer storms run off instead of puddling at your front door.
New brick walls start on a footing sized for their height and finish with a cap that sheds water, so the top rows don't soak through in the rain.
Natural stone for walls, steps and borders gets fitted by hand, and near the water we pick stone that holds up to salt air and hard sun.
Pointing tops up joints that are wearing thin but still sound, which usually costs less than grinding everything out and keeps water from getting behind the brick.
Send the form and we'll get back to you within one business day to set a time. I come out, look at the work and give you the estimate, with no pressure to book.
We get back to you within one business day, so you're not left wondering whether anyone saw your message or when someone can come look.
I'd rather see the wall than guess from a photo, because how deep the damage runs only shows up in person. The estimate costs you nothing.
You get the plan, what it'll take and what can wait. Then it's your call, with no pressure to book and no reason to decide on the spot.
Here's what homeowners in Riviera Beach ask about permits, licenses and checking a masonry contractor before the work starts.
The city's Building Services Division reviews development plans and handles all building permit issues, and it does the building inspections too. You can reach its Permit Center at (561) 845-4020 or Building@rivierabeach.org. If you're not sure your masonry job needs a permit, that's who to ask, and if it does, that part's on us.
In most cases, yes. The city requires a Certificate of Use, a Business Tax Receipt or both from businesses located there and from others doing enough business in the city, unless the law exempts them. Palm Beach County also requires a receipt from anyone selling services in the county. City receipts expire September 30th each year and can be renewed starting July 1st.
No, a business tax receipt isn't a sign the work will be good. The county says its receipt doesn't regulate a business or guarantee the quality of its work, and that it comes on top of any license the law requires. So ask about a contractor's license and insurance as well. We're licensed and fully insured.
A certified contractor can work anywhere in Florida, because the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation issues that license statewide. A registered license only covers the cities or counties where the holder has a certificate of competency. So if a contractor's license is registered, make sure it covers Riviera Beach before the work starts.
